Writer's Block: Sweat it out

Should physical education in schools be mandatory, and why?

Phys. Ed. was always mandatory at my schools, and I'm a little torn about it. I definitely know how important it is to instill kids with a good sense of health and the importance of exercise, especially in the days of the ~obesity epidemic~, but I also know from experience and general anecdata that being forced into playing games when you don't like them and are bad at them in front of lots of other kids that do like it and do have talent when it comes to sports that it can be a pretty bad time. I preferred playing outside with my friends my own way, using my imagination to throw around Pokéballs and have Pokémon battles; but mostly, more importantly, I liked to spend my time inside reading.

Of course, this has contributed to me being a chubster, but whatever. I walk to and from my classes, and even though I'm fluffy, I don't think I'm hideously out of shape. I don't know how or if to overhaul the curriculums for phys. ed., but what I remember from elementary up to high school, it was all focused on games and sports, rather than just playing. So maybe opening up phys. ed. to play rather than cater to the kids who are athletically superior, it would be much more welcome. Or something idek. I fucking hated gym.
